Tzu Chi Mozambique Showcases Community Farm in Mecuzi to Local Authorities

Mecuzi, Nhamatanda, Mozambique – [Date] — The distinguished Administrator of Nhamatanda recently visited one of the most remarkable hidden gems of Tzu Chi Mozambique, the community farm in Mecuzi. This 200-hectare land, generously donated by a local family, serves not only to feed volunteers and beneficiaries but also to foster the self-sustainability of the foundation.

During the visit, officials were shown the reforestation efforts of cashew and moringa trees, alongside the cultivation of maize, tomatoes, cabbage, and a wide variety of other vegetables. The foundation also unveiled its ongoing construction of significant infrastructure, signaling ambitious plans for expansion.

A highlight of the project is the cultivation of sesame, which is set to play a pivotal role in the foundation’s broader agricultural strategy. In addition to the current 200 hectares, the project will utilize an extra 429 hectares in Mecuzi, with seeds distributed to 4,000 families. These families will grow crops that will subsequently be sold to a company identified by the foundation, creating a sustainable revenue stream.

“This partnership is designed to generate income that will support the foundation’s activities while directly benefiting the local community,” said a representative of Tzu Chi Mozambique. “It is a complete cycle of love, empowerment, and community development.”

The Mecuzi community farm exemplifies how agriculture, social responsibility, and philanthropy can intersect to create lasting positive impact, providing food security, employment, and economic opportunities for thousands of families in Nhamatanda and beyond.
