The transformation unseen in a century is accelerating worldwide and the international situation is fluid and turbulent, said Xi.
“Can China and the United States overcome the Thucydides Trap and create a new paradigm of major-country relations? Can we jointly address global challenges and deliver greater stability to the world? Can we jointly build a bright future for our bilateral relations in the interest of the well-being of the two peoples and the future of humanity? These are the vital questions for history, for the world and for the peoples,” Xi said.
These are the questions of the times that leaders of major countries need to answer together, he added.
“I look forward to working with you to set the course and steer the giant ship of China-US relations, so as to make 2026 a historic and landmark year that opens a new chapter in China-US relations,” he said.
“I have agreed with President Trump on a new vision of building a constructive relationship of strategic stability between China and the US,” Xi said.
The new vision will provide strategic guidance for bilateral relations over the next three years and beyond, and is expected to be well received by the peoples of both countries as well as the international community, he said.
The “constructive strategic stability” should be a positive stability with cooperation as its cornerstone, a solid stability with moderate competition, a steady stability with manageable differences, and a lasting stability with promises of peace, Xi said.
Building a constructive relationship of strategic stability between China and the US should not be a mere slogan, but rather concrete measures taken by both sides towards the same goal, he added.
The China-US economic ties are mutually beneficial and win-win in nature, Xi said. "Where there are differences and friction, equal consultation is the only right choice," he said.
Xi revealed that the economic and trade teams of the two countries had produced "generally balanced and positive results" in the latest round of bilateral trade talks on Wednesday.
"This is good news for the peoples of the two countries and the world," he said, calling on the two sides to maintain the good momentum they have worked hard to create.
Noting that China will open its doors wider, Xi said that American companies are deeply involved in China's reform and opening-up, and that the US side is welcome to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation.
"The two sides should implement the important consensus we have reached and make better use of communication channels in the political, diplomatic and military-military fields," Xi said.
The two countries should also expand exchanges and cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, health, agriculture, tourism, people-to-people ties and law enforcement, he added.
As for the Taiwan question, Xi stressed that it is the most important issue in China-US relations.
If handled properly, the bilateral relationship will enjoy overall stability. Otherwise, the two countries will have confrontations and even conflicts, putting the entire relationship in great jeopardy, Xi said, urging the US side to exercise extra caution when dealing with the Taiwan question.
Safeguarding peace and stability across the Strait is the biggest common denominator between China and the United States, Xi said, stressing that "Taiwan independence" and peace across the Strait are as irreconcilable as fire and water.
Trump, for his part, said he was honored to pay a state visit to China. He noted that China and the US have maintained friendly communication and resolved many important issues. He said Xi is a great leader and China is a great nation, expressing deep respect for Xi and the Chinese people.
Trump said he looks forward to strengthening communication and cooperation with China, properly resolving differences, and creating the best China-US relationship in history. He highlighted that China and the US are the two most important and powerful countries in the world, and that cooperation between them can achieve many great things and benefit both nations and the world.
The two leaders also exchanged views on major international and regional issues, including the situation in the Middle East, the crisis in Ukraine and the Korean Peninsula.
They agreed to support each other in hosting this year's APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and the G20 Leaders Summit.
